2014 WREX the Halls : San Diego’s best Winter concert

Dec 20, 2014

Sadly, another 91X WREX the Halls in San Diego has come and gone. San Diego’s Independent Radio Station 91X hosted yet another show with another very awesome line up for WREX the Halls 2014. It was notably the best 2014 winter concert in San Diego.

Headlining WREX the Halls 2014 was Cage the Elephant featuring supporting acts Alt-J, Interpol, Billy Idol, Spoon, Banks, and San Diego local band: Schitzophonics. There was also a surprise but very short 2 song performance by Vance Joy.

Cage the Elephant has supported WREX the Halls in previous years but this was their first time headlining the night. Cage the Elephant is absolutely amazing to see in concert. Cage the Elephant’s front man, Matt Shultz, draws the crowd in with his nonstop energy and that energy fuels the audience providing him ground to walk on. Literally, Matt crowd surfed through the entire floor section at the end of the night – a bet forged and lost by 91x’s DJ Halloran.

Crowd surfing isn’t new to Cage the Elephant nor frontman Matt Shultz. Each Cage the Elephant performance in San Diego in recent years has provided some great crowd surfing moments.

The Man, the Myth, The Legend, The leather jacket, the strut, the snarled lip curl, The one and only IDOL, the reason for 2014 WREX the Halls – Billy Idol! From the first fist pump, Billy Idol, and guitarist Steve Stevens had the audience dancing for a near hour long set. Filling their short time with hits like Dancing with myself, Rebel Yell, Cradle of Love, White Wedding, Eyes without a face, Ready Steady, Go and of course fan favorite: Mony Mony.

Billy Idol’s new autobiography memoir “Dancing with myself and new album ‘Kings and Queens of the underground” are out now. Check out his video describing the new autobiography.

English Indie Rock band, Alt-J is a WREX the Halls alumni, this was their second year.

Australian indie folk singer, Vance Joy surprised concert goers with a short 2 song performance after talking to Halloran about his tour next year supporting Taylor Swift and new album “Dream your life away.”

Interpol, Spoon and Banks also joined the 2014 WREX the Halls ticket. Opening the show was San Diego’s local high energy. trio, Schitzophonics. Not every day you get to see a female drummer in such a high energy group. Although, Lety Beers, drummer for Schitzophonics can provide the energized beat and still look flawless walking off stage.

The countdown begins to WREX the Halls 2015. Who will 91x have next year?

Did you miss the show.. here’s 91X’s recap video
